Niru Turko

Niru brings over 30 years of experience as an innovator and thought leader in the not-for-profit sector to her current role as EFry’s Director of Social Justice and Equity. Niru began her career as a Child and Youth Care Counsellor, but was soon drawn to EFry to help the organization establish programs to improve life and health outcomes for unhoused women and their children.
 
Niru quickly became known for developing transformational programs that improved social and economic outcomes for those in her community and beyond. Her work has led her to become a trusted advisor to government and other stakeholders with emerging best practices in criminal justice reform and reintegration and she continues to develop partnerships and programs that promote social and economic resilience for marginalized groups.
 
Niru leads EFry’s criminal justice initiatives in both community and custodial settings. Niru is passionate about equal access to the law and oversees the work of EFry’s Poverty Law Clinic. She also provides leadership in the delivery of various bed-based perinatal, substance use and rapid response to homelessness initiatives as well as EFry’s advocacy efforts both at home and internationally.
