The program serves self-identified women ages 18 and older who are leaving prison with a parole order that includes a condition of residency. Columbia Place also supports pregnant women and women with young children, where eligible, allowing children ages 0–6 to accompany their mother. The program is designed for women who may be navigating justice-system involvement alongside other barriers such as poverty, homelessness or housing instability, trauma, substance use, mental health concerns, family separation, and limited access to community supports.
Columbia Place provides supervised temporary housing in a communal setting with 24/7 awake staffing. Participants receive support with immediate basic needs, including meals and laundry, as well as personal supports such as emotional support, life skills development, and assistance adjusting to community life. Staff work with participants to connect them to community resources, attend court or other legal proceedings where appropriate, and develop housing plans that support transition into more permanent housing.
The program works closely with the criminal justice system and relevant community partners to provide a supported and monitored re-entry process. Through trauma-informed, gender-responsive, culturally safe, and stigma-informed support, Columbia Place helps women strengthen stability, build life skills, meet community supervision requirements, and move toward safer, healthier, and more independent futures.
The goal of Columbia Place is to support successful reintegration by helping women transition from custody to community with safety, dignity, accountability, and connection. The program aims to reduce barriers after release, support long-term housing stability, and help women build the foundation for positive community participation.
